The Jeffrey Modell Foundation (JMF), together with Baxter Healthcare Corporation, celebrated the opening of the Jeffrey Modell Diagnostic Center for Primary Immunodeficiencies at the University of California – San Francisco (UCSF). Jennifer Puck, MD, professor of pediatrics and human genetics and director of the Jeffrey Modell Foundation Diagnostic Center for Primary Immunodeficiencies at UCSF, said "We will be able to diagnose and treat more patients with PI, and in partnership with our local medical colleagues and by networking with researchers around the world, we can advance cutting–edge research to learn more about these rare diseases."
Seattle Children's recognized the Jeffrey Modell Foundation (JMF), together with Baxter Healthcare Corporation, for funding of a state-of-the-art molecular diagnostic laboratory within its new Center for Immunology Research. Hans Ochs, M.D., Professor of Pediatrics and the Jeffrey Modell Chair of Pediatric Immunology Research at Seattle Children's Hospital Research Institute, noted that the new center "will provide cutting edge research and diagnostic opportunities not only for Seattle, but to colleagues in the U.S. and around the world."
The Jeffrey Modell Diagnostic Center for PI in Children's Hospital of Wisconsin opened in January, 2007. Supported by a grant from Baxter, this new center will offer clinical programs and innovative research for patients throughout the Midwest.
In December 2006, the Jeffery Modell Diagnostic Center for PI at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center opened. The educational and diagnostic programs will be available for patients in New Orleans, the mid-southern states, Latin America and the Caribbean.
The JMF, in collaboration with Baxter, dedicated the Jeffrey Modell Diagnostic Center for PI at Emory Children's Center in Atlanta in December, 2005. The facility will serve as a Center of Excellence in immunology for patients in the southeastern states, providing diagnostic and treatment services for PI.
