Work

Man with briefcaseFor people with PI, and for the parents of children with PI, there are special issues to consider in selecting and managing work.

In selecting a field of work, people with PI will want to consider issues of exposure – to people, to illness and to environmental factors. Also, the physical demands of the work as well as stressors should be considered. The availability of insurance coverage is another important factor to consider.

People with PI and parents of children with PI will need to work with their employer to ensure that there is accommodation for healthcare needs. For example, patients may need to arrange time off work for their infusions. In many cases, working with employers begins with education, as many employers are not familiar with PI.

To help with both education and accommodation issues, Baxter has developed two letters which you may print, complete and share with your employer.

Letter to an Employer 1 (Employee with a Child who has PI)
Letter to an Employer 2 (Employee with PI)
