Is IVIG Right for Me?1

Because many people with primary immune deficiency disorders (PI) lack antibodies needed to resist infection, they can benefit from the infusion of additional antibodies, also known as intravenous immunoglobulin therapy or IVIG.

IVIG is a beneficial therapy for a number of different types of PI, including:

However IVIG is not effective for some types of PI, such as Selective IgA Deficiency or Complement Deficiencies. There are other treatments, including antibiotics, stem cell transplants, granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), gamma interferon, and PEG-ADA, which may be helpful for certain types of PI. Your doctor will help you decide which therapy is right for you.
